http://www.realestateappraisertips.com/ - Appraiser Video Marketing: What Went Right and Wrong With This Appraiser’s Video? Real Estate Appraisers Tip Of The Day 12/22/2009
First, let me say that I applaud the appraiser using video in his marketing!!! Secondly, let me say that I’m not being critical of another appraiser’s marketing. The purpose of my own “Appraiser Video Marketing Tips” on this site and in my “Appraiser Video Marketing” launching in early January 2010 is to teach you tips on how do this right!
This Appraiser below, as stated at beginning of video, is Robert Dunham with Valupoint Valuation Services AND HE IS DOING WHAT 99% OF OTHER APPRAISERS ARE NOT DOING…..”VIDEO MARKETING”! His video has been viewed 279 times on YouTube, which is 279 more views that most appraisers have because they don’t market on YouTube.
WHAT WENT RIGHT?
In my opinion, this was an awesome example of appraiser video marketing. This was a very well thought out video, genuisly put together. Robert was dressed professionally and looks like a veteran appraiser, which exudes confidence with the viewer. Would you hire him as your appraiser? Absolutely! The fact that he walked through his market explaining the challenges of his local market and showing examples along the way was so much better than making a video while just sitting in your office chair. After watching his video, I feel like I know his market. As a Professional Real Estate Appraiser, Robert Dunham knows his profession and how to solve the problems he’s engaged to solve. Plus, his voice suits well for video.
WHAT WENT WRONG?
1.) Where’s He From And How Does A Client Contact Him? The viewer doesn’t have a clue as to where Robert Dunham and Valupoint Valuation Services are located! What city is he located in? How does a client contact him? What’s his website address and why isn’t it in his video? When I view the description of his video, trying to find out more, this is all I see:

What appears to have happened is that Robert hired an advertising agency to shoot a video of him and his appraisal company for YouTube. This video possibly cost hundreds of dollars. The problem is that they, the Ad Agency, submitted the video on their own YouTube Channel instead of that of ValuPoint Valuation Services’ own YouTube Channel, which takes less than 5 minutes to create. If this is what happened, then the money invested isn’t having much of a benefit to Valupoint Valuation Services because we don’t know where they’re located or how to contact them.
2.) The video is a a bit fuzzy looking, could use improvement.
3.) Background Noise. In the first minutes of the video, it’s difficult to hear Robert talk because the video was shot close to a major boulevard with excess auto noise. A cheap $16 external lavalier mic from Radio Shack could help produce better sound as long as the camcorder being used has an external mic jack. The Kodak Zi8 does have a built in external mic jack.
How Can Robert’s Appraiser Video Be Fixed so that potential clients will find him, his appraisal company and his website? That’s what “Appraiser Video Marketing” is all about!
